Early Intervention

2019-03-13 - AYFC - Trinity LiWe are so excited to have launched a TLG Early Intervention Project working with years 5 and 6 in local primary schools. The project has run successfully across the country and has offered children the space they need to deal with situations they are facing.

All over the UK, children are struggling in school for all kinds of reasons and many families are suffering without hope. The effects of bullying, bereavement, family breakdown, poverty or being in the care system can have a huge impact on a child's education. Some children may be struggling with a lack of confidence, have no positive role models, or just need an adult to talk to.

In February we were able to start coaching our first child in a local primary school. We began by talking to the head teacher and the class teacher about their experiences with the child, then the child’s family, and finally the child themselves, about how they feel they are coping with school. Through these conversations we have built up a picture of the child, and have some very clear targets to work on. The sessions have been fun, but have provided healthy challenges for the child and the coach. Already we can see that the child is thinking about what we have talked about, and understands that there are ways that they could react differently in frustrating situations.

We are keen to support more children and to expand into other local schools. Could you volunteer to support a child in Ashby for an hour a week for a year? Full training and resources are provided.
